The brief
Polge composed it as a deliberate paradox: citrus brightness layered over a smoky incense-cedar base, breaking with the sweet patchouli direction of competing 2010 masculines.
Name'Bleu de Chanel' — French for 'blue of Chanel', signalling the masculine line and the deep blue lacquered flacon.
Worn by
Gaspard Ulliel2010
Was the face of the launch campaign directed by Martin Scorsese; remained the brand ambassador until his death in 2022.
Footnotes
- An Eau de Parfum version (reformulated with deeper amber and vanilla) launched in 2014; a Parfum concentration followed in 2018.
The Curator's Note
Scorsese directed the campaign. The fragrance lived up to it.
