Editorial notes

  1. 01

A peachy rose-iris floral on Sophia Grojsman's signature pillowy structure, the same skeleton she had used in Eternity two years earlier and would carry into countless 1990s feminines.

  2. 02

Isabella Rossellini was the face for over a decade starting in 1990. Her Lancôme contract famously ended in 1995 amid an age-discrimination scandal.

  3. 03

Kate Winslet succeeded Rossellini as Trésor's brand face in 2014, reframing the fragrance for a new generation.

  4. 04

Composed by Sophia Grojsman in 1990 around pineapple, peach and apricot blossom over an iris-heliotrope-jasmine heart with sandalwood-amber-vanilla base.

The brief

Sophia Grojsman built it on her signature rose-iris-peach accord, a structural skeleton she would later reuse in Calvin Klein Eternity (1988) and Yves Saint Laurent Paris (1983).

Name'Trésor' — French for 'treasure', framing the fragrance as an intimate, jewel-like indulgence.

Why it mattered

  • Reformulated and relaunched as the bestseller Trésor La Nuit in 2010; the original 1990 formula popularised Grojsman's 'pillowy rose' style for an entire decade.

Worn by

  • Isabella Rossellini1990

Was the face of Trésor for over a decade starting in 1990, in a controversial Lancôme contract that ended in 1995 amid an age-discrimination scandal.

  • Kate Winslet2014

Succeeded Rossellini as Trésor's brand face from 2014.

The Curator's Note

Lancôme fired Rossellini for being too old. The perfume lost something it has never recovered.
